When we decided to expand the kitchen of our early 19th century farmhouse we had priorities that we thought would be difficult for a contractor to balance: the size had to provide the expanded eat-in kitchen our family wanted and the addition had to look like it had always been there….right down to the natural fieldstone foundation. Of course, it all had to be done within our budget. Oh, and we wanted a bathroom done at the same time.
The Erwin Forrest team spent a good deal of time getting to know us, our house and our wants/needs for the new kitchen and bathroom. Jason Andrews (EFB architect) presented a beautiful basic design with several alternates/options and he was extremely patient with our questions and requested changes as the design evolved. Once we settled on the design, EFB had representatives from all required trades visit our house and review the plans to ensure that all bases were covered and to develop a price.
Ultimately, we settled on a design that we loved and worked with our budget. At the project kick-off, John Panza (EFB project manager) walked us through his detailed schedule allowing us to plan for when and how long we would be without a kitchen. EFB even helped set us up with a temporary kitchen.
Each one of the trades did outstanding work. A special “hats off” to the stone masons…unbelievable! John and his subs kept us updated regularly. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day which made living through a renovation much easier to take. EFB maintained the schedule, doing the kitchen and bathroom concurrently with no lapses in work. Each sub was respectful of our home/property and our privacy. At no point were we ever concerned about what our children may see or hear while work was on-going.
Going into the project, one of our biggest concerns was the inevitable surprises that surface when working on an old house. There were several. The EFB team engaged us as they surfaced and resolved all of them to our satisfaction with no hits to the budget! Our other big concern was our own discipline to resist changes/upgrades as the project progressed. We did not resist. The EFB team provided all the information we needed to make informed decisions and the adders were fair and reasonable.
In the end the project was completed on-time and on-budget. We are delighted with everything and we are pleased to recommend EFB without reservation!

As a single woman you hear horror stories about getting work done on your home but with Erwin Forrest I had a delightful experience. They listened to what I wanted and were very honest and upfront about costs. They guided my decision making to tell me what things are worth splurging on and which were not. They were honest about timeline. I always felt comfortable with their staff being in my home. As part of my projects I was getting exterior doors placed and was originally going to have a local door and window company do it but when they heard the timeline and price they told me they could do it in half the time for half the price with the same quality materials. They certainly did deliver! With the door installation there were some structural issues and I was glad to have experienced and knowledgeable team looking at it. Who knows where I would have been if I had gone with the other company! I would trust them to do beautiful work in anyone’s home. I love my new bathroom and am looking forward to my next project!!
